∗ 90% of the world’s population will suffer from oral diseases
∗ Cavities
∗ Periodontal diseases
∗ Oral cancer
∗ Oral health has a great impact on general health
∗ It also plays on self-confidence, lack of social interaction and disrupts crucial functions such as talking and sleeping.
∗ Prevention is crucial
The periodontium is the set of tissues supporting the tooth. It is made up of 4 different hard or soft tissues :
∗ lagencive
∗ lecément
∗ periodontal ligation
∗ alveolar bone
Teeth
The crown is the visible part and the root is the invisible part, the area between the crown and the root being called the crown collar.
The crown is composed of :
. The enamel that covers the entire crown
. Dentin, which, being visible by transparency under the enamel, gives its color to the tooth.
. The pulp, the living part of the tooth because of its richness in nerves and blood vessels.
The root also includes the dentin and the pulp but is covered by the cementum.
The gum is part of the oral mucous membrane and constitutes the visible part of the periodontum.
∗ It surrounds the neck of the teeth and covers the alveolar bone.
∗ The edge of the gum covers the enamel without being attached to the tooth (it is fixed by simple adhesion) thus leaving a space between the tooth and the gum called the gingivo-dental space.
The cementum
∗ The cementum is part of both the tooth and the periodontium. It is an essential element allowing the anchoring of the tooth.
∗ The cementum also protects the roots. It resembles bone but has neither vessels nor nerves.
The periodontal ligament (alveolo-dental ligament or desmodontium)
∗ Ligation ensures that the tooth is fixed in the socket (the cavity in which the tooth is located) by the connecting tissue surrounding the root.
∗ The periodontal ligament is inserted partly into the alveolar bone and partly into the cementum. In this way, the tooth is not fused to the bone.
The alveolar bone
The alveolar bone surrounds and holds the tooth in place.
When the tooth is no longer there, the alveolar bone will gradually remodel and resorb.
The alveolus (the hollow in which the tooth is located) exists only because of the teeth it surrounds.
ORAL PROBLEMS
RELATED TO THE PERIODONTIUM
It is often painless at first!
∗ Tartar accumulated by hardened plaque under the gums that will not go away with scaling
Inflammation (like termites)
Micro-infection under the gums
Attacked bone
Loss of teeth (without realizing it)
Gingivitis (bleeding gums)
∗ Cause « Soft » food (pasta, bread, dead food…)
∗ Our ancestors ate barely cooked meat and raw fish
Muscle Educators
Stimulation, massage and plaque removal

In curotherapy, we recommend the stone « Amber » that calms toothache and physical pain.
